Vikings advance to Cup Finals!
In what has become a reoccurring trend, the Francis Howell Vikings rode strong goaltending, stingy defense and an offensive shot barrage to topple Timberland 4-0 in the final round-robin game of the 2025 St. Charles Invitational tournament Sunday night.
Sophomore Nate Angelo opening the scoring, taking a Jonas Blankenship pass through the slot to slam home the Vikings first goal with 6:59 left in the first period. Senior Assistant Captain Sean Gilmore made it 2-0 Howell pounding in a rebound of a Caleb Bridges shot with just :47 left in the first period.
The Vikings kept up the offensive pressure in the second period. Senior Captain Riley Wright took a feed from Senior Nick Trankler and Junior Charlie Jackson, firing a shot past the Timberland goalie, extending the lead to 3-0 with 10:39 left in the period.
Bridges added the Vikings final goal, late in the second period, guiding a wrist shot into the net with just :55 second left.
Francis Howell outshot Timberland 31-8. The Wolves had a couple of solid chances, but senior net minder Easton Bristow turned them away, picking up his second consecutive shutout of the preseason. In four tournament games, the Vikings have given up just one goal.
The Vikings (4-0-0) will host St. Dominic (3-1-0) in the championship game this Thursday, October 16 at the Rec Plex. The puck will drop in the South A Rink at 9:10 pm.
