Ice Hockey

The Francis Howell Hockey Club fields teams at the Varsity, JV and B level each season, providing players of all levels the opportunity to compete for and represent their high school. The club is a not for profit organization whose purpose is to provide high school hockey opportunities to 7th – 12th grade students who reside within the Francis Howell High School district.  Though Francis Howell Hockey Club is a non-school sponsored club, it plays under the Vikings name and logo and conducts itself in a manner that reflects positively upon the Francis Howell High School.

Ages

Players 9th grade through 12th grade are eligible to play Varsity and JV. Players 8th grade are eligible for B-team. Players in 7th grade are eligible for B-team as long as they are also meet the age requirements to be 14U Bantams in youth hockey.

When

The Varsity/JV seasons begin with practices in early September and run through the playoffs in February.

B team practices will begin in mid January and will run through the end of the league season.

Where

Practices are typically held at the St. Peters RecPlex and the Wentzville Ice Arena.

Practices

High school players can expect to practice at least twice a week. Middle School players will practice just once a week.

Games

Each of our teams participates in the Mid-States High School Hockey league. The number of games varies depending team. Varsity usually plays a 21 game schedule, JV a 14 game schedule, and B team 10-12 game schedule.

Pricing

For the 2025-2026 season, the following is a list of costs and items associated with playing hockey for one of the teams.

USA Hockey Registration Fee  - All players need to be registered with USA Hockey. The link to register is here: https://membership.usahockey.com/

Safe Sport Certification - Players with birth year 2007 or 2008 must complete additional Safe Sport certifications as part of their USA Hockey registration. This must be completed prior to the start of practices. Players will not be allowed on the ice without this certification. Francis Howell Hockey Club Registration Fee - There is a $150 registration fee when signing up for the upcoming season. This fee is part of the total fees charged by the club for each player and not an additional fee. 

Varsity and JV Skaters - The cost for a returning Varsity/JV skater is $1,900. The cost for a new skater to the Varsity or JV teams is $2,300. This additional $400 cost covers the cost of team-issued uniforms and is a one-time fee.

Varsity and JV Goalies - The cost for a returning Varsity/JV goalie is $1,300. The cost for a new goalie to the Varsity or JV teams is $1,700. This additional $400 cost covers the cost of team-issued uniforms and is a one-time fee.

These fees are used to cover the cost of Mid States' team registration fees, practice ice time, coaches fees and other costs associated with club activities throughout the season.

Developmental/B Players - B team players do not pay a registration fee and do not participate in evaluation skates.  The B team registration will open Jan. 15, 2026 and close Jan. 31, 2026. Games will be played April-June in the Mid States Spring League.

The cost for a Developmental/B team player (skater or goalie) is $1150. This fee covers the cost of uniforms,  Mid States' team registration fees, coaches fees and other costs associated with club activities throughout the season. Parents will be asked to provide a deposit before uniforms will be issued.  The deposit will be returned at the conclusion of the season when uniforms are returned.

Team Specific Fees - Individual teams may choose to participate in extra activities (such as team outings and dinners). There would be additional costs associated with these activities. Cost TBD by each team activity or event.

Payments/Payment Plans - Parents may pay fees in full by check or credit card (credit card convenience fees will apply). Monthly payment plans are available as well.  For parents participating in the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater fundraiser, your first payment is deferred until Nov. 15.  For those parents who are not participating in the fundraiser, monthly payments start September 15. All fees must be paid in full by January 15, 2026. 

Developmental/B Team - B team registration opens Jan 15, 2026 and ends Jan. 31, 2026 Payment plans are available with monthly payments starting Jan. 15. All fees must be paid in full by April 15, 2026. 

Documents

Player Agreement - All club members must read, sign and return a copy of the Francis Howell Hockey Club Player Agreement. Both player and parent are required to read and sign.

Academic Eligibility - All Varsity/JV players need to have their previous school year's report card or transcript uploaded prior to the start of practice. This can be done as part of the club registration process. Mid-States requires that all high school players have passed at least three credits of classes in the most recently completed semester

Safe Sport - All players with birth year 2007 or 2008 must complete the USA Hockey Safe Sport certification prior to the start of practices

Eligibility

High School - You must be currently enrolled in the Francis Howell School District and attend Francis Howell High School as a Freshman-Senior. Mid-States requires that all high school players have passed at least three credits of classes in the most recently completed semester.

Middle School - 7th & 8th graders born in at least 2013 are eligible to play B-Team. 2026  B Team players will have a birth year of 2011, 2012 and 2013. No 6th or 11th graders can be rostered regardless of their birth year. No Junior Elite, Tier 1, AAA, AAA Lady Blues, Central States Bantam Major or Midget Minor and Major, Central States Prospects Bantam Major or Midget Minor and Major, Twin Bridges Elite, and Carshield players. This includes players who have been rostered on the excluded teams at any point during the season.   

Home School - Players attending home school and residing within the Francis Howell District are eligible to play provided the district will provide accreditation to their course work. Please contact the Registrar for the Board of Directors for more information.

Practices begin the first week of September for the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams with the season beginning the last week of October.  

The B team will begin practicing in mid January with the season set to begin in April.

Varsity and Junior Varsity players will practice each week on Monday and Thursday, 4:00pm - 5:00pm at the St. Peters Rec Plex and Tuesdays at the Wentzville Ice Arena, 7:20pm - 8:20pm.  Team practice schedules will be updated through Crossbar.
